從盲人認識世界的方式那里獲得啟發，成勇不斷拓展以“障礙”為主題的藝術探索。在最近的作品中，成勇巧妙地揭示了明與暗之間的辯證關系。一般認為，光明源于去蔽，黑暗源于遮蔽。但是，成勇用他的藝術顛倒了這個常識。沒有障礙，人類就無法認知，世界將一團漆黑。然而，任何認識，在某種意義上又都是在制造障礙。成勇借助盲文這個契機，以繪畫、雕塑、裝置、影像和行為等一系列的藝術手段，對一個深刻的哲學道理做出了成功的視覺表達。觀看成勇的藝術，不僅可以獲得視覺享受，而且可以獲得思想啟迪和人生感悟。

Cheng Yong has special experience during his teaching at Nanjing Technical College of Special Education. He realizes that the cognitive style of the blind is very different from the normal. The blind understand the world through obstacle, while the normal, disclosure. However, according to Cheng Yong’s, understanding, obstacle is not only important for the blind but also for the normal, since, basically speaking, all cognition originates from obstacles. Without the obstacles, the transparency is same with opacity. And so any knowledge is obstacle in the sense of both concealment and disclosure. Cheng Yong illuminates this profound and complicated philosophy with his paintings, sculptures, installations, videos and performances, which all have minimalist style. From Cheng Yong’s art, we can get not only visual enjoyment, but also enlightenment and inspiration.
